Travelogue

  • I slept soundly next to the CBD in the old Beijing style

This time I came to Chaoyang, Beijing to handle some personal matters. I didn't choose the popular internet hotel next to Guomao, but instead plunged into the Livefortuna Hotel Beijing by Dawang Road. I originally only thought it would be convenient for travel, but after three nights of immersive stay, I realized that this hotel, rooted in the core area of CBD, has hidden the old Beijing style comfort in every detail of accommodation. Even someone like me who suffers from insomnia when changing beds has found a long lost sense of security in the bustling city.
As soon as I checked in, I was hit by a detail. The doorman took my dusty suitcase and put a dust cover on it before pushing it into the elevator; When checking the information at the front desk, I noticed that I had wrapped my coat tightly and quietly handed over a cup of warm old Beijing tangerine peel tea. With a smile, I said that after autumn in Beijing, the wind is hard, and drinking a cup of warm tea can drive away the cold. Open the door of the room on the high floor. There is no extravagant decoration. The warm brown soft decoration is soft but not stuffy. The small tea table facing the window is facing the CBD skyline. The wind comes in through the half open window, enveloping the sweet smell of Roasted chestnuts in sugar-coated heated sand on the street below. The tiredness of the journey is almost gone.
The most surprising thing is the peaceful sleeping experience amidst the hustle and bustle. Although located in the core area of CBD, the three-layer insulated glass seamlessly separates the noise from the outside world, making it impossible for the traffic on the main road downstairs to penetrate. The softness and hardness of the mattress just support the waist and neck, without the collapse feeling commonly seen in many city hotels. The 80 count pure cotton bedding is washed fluffy and soft, and there is no unfamiliar stiffness when applied to the skin. The double-layer blackout curtains tightly block all external light, and even the neon lights of the office building cannot penetrate at night. I slept for eight hours for three consecutive nights without the insomnia problem of changing beds. When getting up at night, the sensor night light at the foot of the bed slowly lights up, and the light is soft enough not to be dazzling. The hot water in the bathroom comes out in seconds, and the water flow from the thermostatic showerhead wraps around the body, rubbing away the sourness and bloating from a day of wandering.
The daily fragmented experience is also full of the thoughtfulness of old-fashioned hotels. In the morning, I went to the restaurant on the first floor to have a buffet. My aunt in Mingdang remembered that the day before yesterday I asked for fermented sour milk made from ground mung bean wow gold with coke rings. Before I could speak, she brought me a hot meal and a small dish of homemade mustard. When I left, I casually left my scarf in the lobby. When I came back, the staff had neatly folded it and placed it at the front desk, and even thoughtfully put on a dust bag. One day, when I returned to the hotel late at night, the front desk also handed me a small box of free Pea puree cake, saying that I had seen my circle of friends wandering in the alleys, and I had deliberately left cool old Beijing Dim sum.
I used to think that chasing after internet famous hotels to check in when coming to Beijing was fresh, but this time after staying at Livefortuna Hotel Beijing, I realized that truly comfortable accommodation is never just a pile of ceremonial feelings. It's like an old Beijing neighbor who has known you for many years, quietly arranging all your unspoken needs. In just three nights, it feels like having a quiet and comfortable temporary home next to the busiest CBD.Show more

  • Caught the slow fireworks of old Beijing next to the CBD

This time when I came to Beijing to stroll through Dongcheng Hutong, I specifically chose to stop at Livefortuna Hotel Beijing. Going out is the skyline of the CBD city, and taking a turn can lead to the hustle and bustle of old Beijing's hutongs. After three nights of staying, I didn't rush to the bustling check-in spots of internet celebrities, but instead found a relaxing and comfortable short distance in the bustling core area.
Just got out of Dawanglu Station on Metro Line 1 and walked for five minutes to reach the hotel entrance. You don't have to take a detour with your suitcase, and you don't even need to blow too much of the cold autumn wind in Beijing. When checking in, the front desk heard that I was here to stroll through the alley. Not only did they quickly complete the procedures, but they also specially handed me a hand drawn niche route map: without crowding the crowds of Nanluogu Lane, you can pass through the small path next to the hotel and enter the quiet Xizhongbu Hutong in twenty minutes. Even the nearby braised restaurant that has been open for thirty years and the old Beijing copper pot that still operates late at night are clearly marked. Open the window of the room on the high floor, the skyscrapers in CBD and the grey tile roof of the alley in the distance collide with each other. The wind is still wrapped in the sweet smell of Roasted chestnuts in sugar-coated heated sand on the street.
The most comfortable thing is the convenience of not having to rush to travel. The next day, there's no need to wake up early and squeeze into the subway. Take a leisurely stroll to Tiananmen Square to watch the flag raising ceremony. You don't have to leave two hours early to rush, the time is just right. At noon, walk back along the alley and turn into the old Beijing Zhajiangmian shop recommended by the front desk. The noodles rolled by hand are full of tendons and eight kinds of side dishes, which are several times more authentic than the online stores in the scenic spot. In the evening, there is no need to squeeze on the subway back to the hotel. Slowly swaying along the Tonghui River, watching the lights of the CBD gradually light up, the old man strolling by the river shaking his fan and chatting, even slowing down his footsteps.
The details of the hotel also conceal meticulous attention to detail. The Ming stall of the breakfast is cooking fermented sour milk made from ground mung bean wow gold coke rings that taste like old hutongs. The steamed donkey meat is crisp outside and tender inside. You don't have to panic when you get up late. You can still have a hot meal at 10:30. Strolling until late at night back to the hotel, I don't have to squeeze through the crowds to find my way. Just take a few turns and step into the lobby. The room service has quietly tidied up the alley that I casually laid out on the table. A small bottle of free throat lozenge was placed at the bedside, relieving the dryness of my mouth and tongue after a day of wandering.
In the past, when I came to Beijing, I always wanted to catch up with scenic spots and squeeze in popular check-in spots. However, this time when I stayed at Livefortuna Hotel Beijing, I realized that choosing the right place to stay, I don't have to compete with tourists for scenery. Beside the busiest CBD, I can also have my own, leisurely old Beijing time.Show more
